Step 1: Application

If you have already filled out an submitted an application, there is no need to fill out another one. The Butte College application for admission form must be completed and signed in the students handwriting. Or one may down load the application and mail a sign copy. Be sure to fill out all sections. The application is stored as a PDF file and may require additional software to download, click on Adobe's site if you fit into this category.

There is no application fee to apply for admission, and the application does not require you to enroll, it just gives you the option. Priority for orientation is based on the date you file your application. For further information, email or call Admissions and Records, 530-895-2361. International calls require a county call code.

Step 2: Transcripts

Transcripts of all previous academic work in high school and college are required. Students may be exempt from assessment for English, reading, and/or mathematics if prior course work meets the necessary criteria.

Request your former school(s) to send an official transcript to the college. Transcripts become a part of the students permanent file.


Step 3: BSA

The Basic Skills Assessment (BSA) must be taken prior to your orientation date. You will not be allowed to register for classes until you have placement levels on file. Possible BSA exemptions are shown on an exemption list found within the catalog.

The BSA lasts two and one-half hours and is composed of multiple choice questions. The test is administered throughout the year at various times and locations. For sign ups, questions and/or concerns regarding assessment, please call the Assessment Office. 530-895-2350

Step 4: Orientation/Counseling

Orientation appointments will be mailed to all new and new transfer students upon receipts of their application to the college. if you do not hear from Orientation, call them at: 530-895-2416

Possible orientation exemptions are shown within the catalog. The final step in orientation is to registration into classes. After registration and counseling be sure to check with a faculty advisor for final approval of your classes.


Step 5: Registration

Information concerning enrollment and registration dates for each term is contained in the schedule of courses published prior to the beginning of each term. Students appearing for registration may discover that desired courses may be closed. You should anticipate this situation and make alternative course choices prior to registration. Step 6: Adding Classes

Students may add classes that are still available during the first two weeks of school. Course registration during this time is accomplished by having the instructor sign an add form. This is also an excellent time to contact your faculty advisor.

Step 7: Payment of Fees

All fees are collected when you register. Be prepared to pay at that time. Fees are published in the class schedule prior to the start of registration. Fee waivers and fee exemptions are available.
