Family and Consumer Sciences

The Family and Consumer Sciences program provides an interdisciplinary approach to train individuals to function effectively in changing family, community and work environments. It draws upon the physical, biological, behavioral and social sciences, the arts, and business to prepare individuals for gainful employment, advanced study and lifelong learning. Students are trained in the integrated disciplines of foods and nutrition, fashion and textiles, child development, life management, and interior design to develop skills that improve the quality of life for individuals, families and society as a whole.
A one-year program resulting in a Certificate of Achievement is available in Family and Consumer Sciences, and a two-year program leading to the Associate Degree is available also.
Typical courses in the Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum include: Child Development, Fashion, Interior Design, Life Management, and Foods and Nutrition.
