The 2007-2008 Season

Preview: The Roadrunners have an experienced, talented, and strong returning contingent from last year's team along with an excellent class of new players. This promises to provide excitement and hopes for a very successful 2007-2008 hoop season. The Roadrunners will have depth at all positions, an inside–outside presence, and an exciting up-tempo style at both ends of the court. The Runners have the talent and potential to become a solid basketball team, but it will take awhile for this potential to succeed and it will depend upon how long it takes for the veterans and new players to mesh into a cohesive unit.

Schedule: This year's tough schedule will see the Roadrunners playing nine home games at Cowan Gym. They will play away in four outstanding tournaments and launch their own tournament this year with the Eagle Security Systems and Ray Morgan Classic during Thanksgiving weekend. Single date contests will be played against more tough opponents including Sierra College, The College of Alameda and The College of Marin. After an unusual extended Christmas break the Roadrunners will prepare for the always tough Golden Valley Conference starting in January. Their goal is nothing short of a championship.

Returnees: Providing depth and experience this season for the Roadrunners will be six returning sophomores. Sharp-shooting guards Jack Martin 5'10", Ray Donahue 6'0”, and Brett Smyth 6'1”, an All-GVC Defensive Team 2007 selection are poised to help the Runners towards an outstanding season. All started last season and played exceptionally well down the team's final strong stretch. Each of these young men provided some outstanding play in 2006-2007 and will be counted upon again this season to lead the Runners. Three other returning sophomores joining them and vying for playing time will be off-guard Kazu Yamasaki 6'0”, and front-liners Tyler Schiltz 6”7” and Stephan Hartley 6'5 ”. Each of these young men is capable of stepping in and helping the Roadrunners this season. However, there will be a strong contingent of new players also competing for playing time and helping to make this year's Roadrunner squad a formidable team!

Incoming Class: This year's class includes outstanding freshmen and one four-year sophomore transfer. This group will provide a strong balance for the veterans to blend with and many of them will be counted upon to contribute throughout the season. Among this talented group are three well-known local players who come to Butte College with solid playing credentials. Jet-like point guard Tyree Haynie 5”9” ( Pleasant Valley HS), scoring guard Donovan Plunkett 5”10” (Las Plumas HS) and versatile swing-man Andy Roberts 6”4” (Champion Christian HS) are expected to help the Roadrunners this season. They are joined by two outstanding international players in versatile Pavol Losonsky 6'8” from Slovakia, and post-man Donatas Visockis 6'10'', a Lithuanian sophomore transfer from Southern Mississippi University. Both these young men are talented and will be counted upon to help the Roadrunners succeed. Rounding out this year's squad are 6'4”swingman Makie Rice ( Chico HS), who could be a very big surprise for the Runners this season, and 6'1” guard Earnest Brown ( Pleasant Valley HS).
