Commitment To Sustainability Leadership

Butte-Glenn Community College District, Energy and Sustainability Board Policy No. 6666, Approved November 12, 2008  - The Board delegates to the Superintendent/President or designee the authority to develop practices and procedures that continue the legacy of leadership in sustainability in all areas of the college, including instruction, operations, construction, facilities, land use, energy conservation, and environmental integrity. The Energy and Sustainability Procedures will include goals and guidance for all facets of the college that ensure the evolution of best practices in sustainability. PDF Version

"Succeeding Together - 2012" develops five strategic initiatives that provide the basis for Butte College's strategic direction. "Modeling Sustainability" is one of five Butte College Strategic/Educational Initiatives developed using an Appreciative Inquiry process in January 2007.  Modeling Sustainability - The college promotes the best possible outcomes for its human and natural environments. This includes approaching the college curriculum, student and civic engagement and college practices in ways that meet current needs while ensuring similar resources will be available in the future.  PDF Version (see page 19 and 20 on Modeling Sustainability)

 

The Talloires Declaration (TD) - The Butte College constituency groups, The Associated Students Body, Academic Senate and Classified Senate, and Management Association, have endorsed this declaration through their constituency. The American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment - The Presidents Climate Commitment was signed by Butte-Glenn Community College District's president Dr. Diana Van Der Ploeg on January 10, 2007. Sustainability Committee - Butte College Sustainability Committee consists of students, staff, faculty and administrators. The committee carries out its goals in collaboration with colleagues from within Facilities Planning and Management and the larger campus community.

The Sustainability Resource Center is a place for students, staff, and faculty to further educate themselves on Sustainability issues and become involve in the efforts at Butte College, the community, and beyond. The Center has a small library of books, DVDs, magazines, and other publications on Sustainability, and provides support to students on writing assignments and presentations relating to Sustainability.  Current hours of operation are Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am-1pm and Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9am-11am.  The Sustainability Resource Center is located in the Learning Resource Center, Room 141.  Contact information: (530) 879-6143 (voice); sustainability@butte.edu (email).
