Interview by Michael Smith

Q: Where did you graduate High School?
I graduated from Paradise High School in 1999.

Q: Why did you choose to attend Butte College?
I spent two and a half years at Butte College. I started with General Ed courses. Later, I took an assessment test that showed I had an affinity toward Admin of Justice classes. After a few AJ course I had opportunity to Job Shadow a Corrections Officer at the Butte County jail as part of a PIC program. I decided to pursue a CO position with the County because of that experience.

Q: What did you like most about Butte College?
My favorite thing about Butte College is the people. There is a real scene of camaraderie among Corrections students.

Q: What do you like most about corrections?
Again, the people, the staff was very team oriented and worked together well. I like working with people and I like the responsibility of the position and the team approach to performing a job.

What I like most about the Corrections course is the instructor. He's very knowledgeable.
The most demanding part of the class is the weekly testing.

Q: What words of advice would you give to a new Butte College student?
The best advice I could give an incoming or new student would be to get into the General Education program. It'll introduce you to a lot of different subjects and you can springboard into something that catches your interest. I had a good experience taking a variety of classes. Stick with it if the going gets tough. I especially like AJ instructors at Butte College.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
My future plans would be working for Butte County Corrections Department as a corrections officer.
