Special Programs

COYOTE GALLERY

The Coyote Gallery, located on the main campus, generally focuses on local and regional contemporary art. Media as varied as sculpture, painting, drawings, prints, ceramics, photography, fiber, mixed media, participatory installations and video are represented. In addition, there is an annual juried student exhibition and awards ceremony honoring some of the college's most talented art students. Lectures and demonstrations are often coordinated with exhibitions. All of the exhibitions are curated, directed and publicized by the gallery director with the assistance of students in Art 70, Gallery Production. Students learn the mechanics of installing art exhibits from the planning stages to opening receptions.   Contact the gallery at 895-2877.

DRAMA

The Butte College Drama program provides a challenging, stimulating, and exciting experience by significantly enhancing the understanding of acting and all phases of the technical theater. Students frequently choose Drama courses for three reasons: 1) to enter community and professional fields of theater; 2) to enter communication fields in teaching, business, advertising and law; and 3) to pursue personal goals or leisure activities in performing arts events.   Contact Barry Piccininio for more information at 895-2275 or piccininioba@butte.edu .

FORENSICS

The Forensics Program joins others across California, and nationwide, in speech competition. Students travel and compete in the areas of public speaking (informative, persuasive, impromptu), oral interpretation of literature (prose, poetry, duo) and different styles of debate. Challenging and enhancing public speaking skill and meeting students throughout the state and nation are only two of the advantages to joining the program. Students who travel are required to enroll in Speech 12. Interested students are encouraged to contact Stacey Bartlett (FOM 103) 895-2243 or bartlettst@butte.edu .

HONORS PROGRAM

The Butte College Honors Program provides exceptionally motivated students an opportunity to study some of the "classics" of Western civilization in an intimate, interdisciplinary, team-taught setting. As a result, successful honors students are better prepared to continue their advanced studies. Enthusiastic students who would welcome the challenge of often difficult readings and invigorating discussions with fellow students and faculty are encouraged to contact Dr. Roger Ekins (FOC 107) 895-2941 or ekinsro@butte.edu .
