Technical guidlines to ensure that your course includes the necessary elements for technical approval by the DLC.
The Distance Learning (formerly Distance Education) Committee was created by the Butte College Academic Senate in March 2006 as a standing committee.
Its purpose is to establish minimum technical qualifications for instructors teaching online whenever such instruction replaces any regularly scheduled face-to-face instruction and establish, review and implement technical standards for the approval of the initial offering of an online course for "regular student contact," ease of navigation, and ADA compliance.
The Distance Learning Committee does not evaluate the content of online courses but, through the use of Technical Approval Standards and faculty training, is charged with making sure the course makes use of pedagogically sound online tools and that the instructor is fully trained for teaching in an online modality.
The Distance Learning Committee works closely with the Curriculum Committee (which approves course content and modality) and maintains, for the guidance of Department Chairs and others, a database containing up-to-date training information for each faculty member who uses Blackboard.
